Day 1 for India at Tokyo 2020 - Headlines
India had an amazing Day 1 at Tokyo Olympics as Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the Silver medal in the Women's 49Kg Category.
This is the first-ever Silver Medal in Weightlifting for India. India had to wait just for a medal in weightlifting for 21 years since Karnam Malleswari won a Bronze medal at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
Nevertheless, it came at the right time as the Indian contingent got the required boost to compete with belief that they can bring the medals home.
Another promising performance came from the shooter Saurabh Choudhary in Men's 10m Air pistol event where after a promising qualification round he finished 7th in the Final as J. Foroughi of Iran won Gold.
The Indian Men's Hockey team got off to a good start to their campaign by beating New Zealand 3-2 in a Pool A match.
Indian Archer's mixed team lost to the South Korean team which went on to win the Gold in that particular event.
Round 1 of table tennis started on a positive note for both Men and Women singles players.
Boxer Vikas Krishan lost to Okazawa of Japan by 5:0 in the round of 32.
Day 2 for India at Tokyo 2020 - Headlines
After an eventful and positive first day for India, the hopes were high from Indian Fans. The day started on a negative note when Women's double pair of Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina went down fighting in the first round to Ukraine's pair.
Then came the lightning-fast performance of PV Sindhu, who finished the match in just 28 minutes. Sindhu just decimated her opponent with a crushing margin of 21-7 & 21-10. Her Israeli counterpart had no answers to her cross-court smashes. Sindhu is the potential medal hope for India.
Another couple of great performances came from Manika Batra and Mary Kom.
Manika Batra was 2 sets down at the start but came fighting to beat a much higher ranked player by 4 sets to 3 in a closely fought contest.
Mary Kom stamped her authority in the round of 32 with a split decision of 4:1.
Shocker of the news came from Women's 10m Air Pistol Qualification where the potential Medal Contender Manu Bhaker's gun malfunctioned and left her with limited time to compete with. She did recover well but the replacement of the gun part at the Olympic's never fair well. She finished 12th where only the top 8 made it to the final.
Boxer Manish Kaushik lost to L. McCormack of Britain in the round of 32 by a split decision of 4:1.
The Indian Men's Hockey team lost to Australia by 7:1 in the Pool A match.
With Plenty of action yet to come we are hopeful for improved performances at Tokyo Olympics than last time but it is not going to be easy by the look of the first two days of the competition.
